Welcome to Palmetto Riverside

Elegant tranquil location
on the North bank of the Manatee River

Palmetto was founded by Samuel Sparks Lamb in 1866. He platted the village and named it after his native state of South Carolina, the ‘Palmetto State’. J.A. Lamb eldest son of the township’s founding father built 1102 Riverside Drive as their new family home. This house was a SEARS & ROEBUCK HOUSE ordered from a catalogue and came complete and ready to put together. The family then occupied this home for a long time as they had outgrown their original home next door. This local landmark is listed on the ‘Nation’s Registry of Historical Homes’. The Historic Lamb Estate adjoins our property on the lots western perimeter. The city became officially established in 1893. When the railroad came to Palmetto in 1902, this allowed contractors to have a steady supply of bricks to build many new brick buildings. The Manatee River played an important part in the history of Palmetto. To the pioneers, the river was like our innerstate highways of today. J.A. Lamb served as one of the first aldermen and continued to be active in Palmetto until his death in 1910.

While Manatee County has experienced steady growth through the years it has managed to hold on its rich history. Not long ago, Money Magazine ranked Manatee County the 21st Best Place to Live in America.

Our house was originally built in 1913 by J.A. Lamb (founder of Palmetto) eldest son and occupied as their home. This magnificent home on a corner lot blends a classic charm and grandeur with sophisticated modern finishes. Our completely restored two-story guesthouse featuring all its original wood detail, heart pine wood floorings, all other period details and yet embellishing all of today’s electrical systems and professionally equipped kitchen, will appeal every visitor and is a must see.
