THE INNKEEPERS

Our story

Dear visitor, Welcome to the West Coast of Florida, close to Sarasota, Bradenton, AnnaMaria Island, Longboat Key, St-Petersburg and Tampa!

Thank you for visiting our website. We are Wim and Mieke Lippens (your Belgian innkeepers/owners) and would like to take this opportunity to tell a litte about ourselves and why we started our Bed and Breakfast.

Mieke (°1974) and myself (°1973) grew up in 2 small neighbouring towns in the heart of Flanders (Belgium) about 30 miles south of Bruges called the Venice of Northern Europe.

After having attended college in Belgium and being on an exchange program in Bradenton, Florida in 1990, we got married and our 2 daughters were born. We started both a career in our family owned textile recycling business. We imported and exported high quality second-hand and vintage designer clothing. Inviting customers from all over the world to our home for after business hors d’oeuvres, our passion for hospitality and personal service intrigued us greatly.

After being on the look-out for the right property on Florida’s West Coast for several years, we knew as soon as we saw the Palmetto Riverside Residence, we had found what we had been looking for.

This historic property which we decorated with several collectable designer’s accessories, embellishes all of today’s modern finishings. This created an exquisite atmosphere and makes the Palmetto Riverside Bed and Breakfast the best of both worlds.

Since the time we started the B&B in 2009, we have expanded from 4 bedrooms to 6 guest rooms. Also, we have been focusing on hosting waterfront wedding ceremonies and receptions as well as family reunions, baby showers, bridal showers, ... In 2011 we have added a Ballroom/Reception hall with outdoor marble patio. In 2015 we have built an outdoor living room with chandeliers and French fireplace.

The cosiness of our bedrooms, our delicious continental breakfast in the morning, the river breeze on your face and late afternoon hors d’oeuvres in the garden will make your stay unforgettable !

See you soon !

Our Champagne

ANNIVERSARY EXCITEMENT BUBBLES

Palmetto Riverside announces the arrival of an exceptional delivery into its collection of specialties.

Its very own "limited-edition" private-label of French Champagne. The Champagne is called 'LaDiva', made by Maison Merat-Talon. The private-label is Palmetto Riverside Champagne. The producer supplies this famous champagne to many of France's top restaurants and to Royal Families.

This pure palate Tete de Cuvee is born of 100 % Pinot Noir grapes, harvested from top vineyards East of Reims. Floral freshness with aromas of fresh fruits, reflections of straw yellow and a full flavor are the results of ageing in fine French oak casks. Exclusively bottled to mark the 100th anniversary of our Historic Home, the Palmetto Riverside Champagne is available in full bottle size and is uniquely sold at the Bed and Breakfast.

Palmetto Riverside - The History

Our house is listed on the ‘Nation’s Registry of Historical Homes’

Palmetto was founded by Samuel Sparks Lamb in 1866. He platted the village and named it after his native state of South Carolina, the ‘Palmetto State’. J.A. Lamb eldest son of the township’s founding father built 1102 Riverside Drive as their new family home. This house was a SEARS & ROEBUCK HOUSE ordered from a catalogue and came complete and ready to put together. The family then occupied this home for a long time as they had outgrown their original home next door. This local landmark is listed on the ‘Nation’s Registry of Historical Homes’. The Historic Lamb Estate adjoins our property on the lots western perimeter. The city became officially established in 1893. When the railroad came to Palmetto in 1902, this allowed contractors to have a steady supply of bricks to build many new brick buildings. The Manatee River played an important part in the history of Palmetto. To the pioneers, the river was like our innerstate highways of today. J.A. Lamb served as one of the first aldermen and continued to be active in Palmetto until his death in 1910.

While Manatee County has experienced steady growth through the years it has managed to hold on its rich history. Not long ago, Money Magazine ranked Manatee County the 21st Best Place to Live in America.

Our house was originally built in 1913 by J.A. Lamb (founder of Palmetto) eldest son and occupied as their home. This magnificent home on a corner lot blends a classic charm and grandeur with sophisticated modern finishes. Our completely restored two-story guesthouse featuring all its original wood detail, heart pine wood floorings, all other period details and yet embellishing all of today’s electrical systems and professionally equipped kitchen, will appeal every visitor and is a must see.
